How To Pay

Due to a change in banking procedures, the United States Embassy in Oslo is not able to deposit bank checks (bankremisse) in person as required by our financial management regulations. Unfortunately, this means that we are prohibited from accepting payments of consular fees with a bankremisse, bank transfer, and Vipps.

Currently, payments for most U.S. citizen services—including notary services, all minor passport applications, first-time adult passport applications, applications for passport cards, and replacements of lost, stolen, or damaged passports—must be made in person at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo.

Beginning September 2, 2019, adult U.S. citizens renewing their passports through the form DS-82 may be eligible to pay their passport renewal fee online. To determine your eligibility to make an online payment for your passport renewal fee, please review the checklist below.

Please note: All credit or debit card payments processed at the U.S. Embassy are managed as transactions placed in the United States. Please remember to open up your card for foreign transactions before you visit the U.S. Embassy to make your payment.

  • If you cannot come to the Embassy to pay yourself, a friend or relative may come to the Embassy to make the payment for you.
  • If you should choose to have someone pay on your behalf, please schedule an appointment in that person’s name.
  • You may send your application to the Embassy through the mail separately or it may be delivered to the Embassy with a visit to pay the fee.
  • You can pay by credit card or cash (NOK or USD). The card must be open for transactions placed in the United States.

We realize that this is an inconvenience for our passport customers who qualify to submit application by mail, and we apologize for the extra burden this may cause. We are searching for a solution to make passport payment easier.
