On Thursday, June 18, the U.S. Embassy in Oslo hosted more than 1,500 guests in the garden of Villa Otium, in celebration of America’s 239th Independence Day.
The weather was varied and went from a warm and sunny summer’s day to pouring rain. The guests were treated to snacks like McDonald’s fries and Starbucks Coffee, ice creams, cakes and various American beverage brands. As is customary at most American barbeques, guests also enjoyed real American burgers.
Guests were also able to try American automobile icons such as a Ford Mustang and a Corvette. Throughout the event the choir Fresco from Eidsvoll, dressed in traditional national costumes, sang hymns and anthems, and the Oslo Home Guard Big Band played familiar tunes.
Chargé d’Affaires Julie Furuta-Toy made remarks, talking about the close ties between the United States and Norway. As was evident by the participation numbers, the event illustrates once again the remarkable relationship between Norway and the United States.
