Nammo is the second largest defense company in Norway.  In addition to producing rocket motors, Nammo has been selected by the Norwegian military to supply its F-35s with new multi-role (air/sea/ground target) ammunition, which will be developed in partnership with the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization. This ammunition may be purchased in the future by multiple F-35 partner nations.  They are also partnering with the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Indian Head, MD, investing over $30M, and creating over 130 high-tech jobs in the U.S.

State Secretary Øystein Bø.

The latest generation of the AIM-9X Sidewinder will be utilized specifically for U.S. and Norwegian (as well as partner nation) F-35s. Along with many other new and armaments being developed, an extensive redesign was required to fit the “internal carriage” capability of the F-35, allowing the Joint Strike Fighter to maintain stealth in combat.

The deal will lead to increased cooperation between the U.S. and Norway for decades to come.
